This morning, I met a friend who had recently trekked through Aarey Colony - Mumbai's verdant jungle, practically a green lung that stretches from Jogeshwari right upto Film City in Goregaon. Inspired, as I was, I impulsively decided to venture in, armed with my camera.
Wow, is this Mumbai? Is this India's Big Apple? Is this the city that never sleeps?
But in this jungle, right in the midst of the megapolis, everything has a sleepy pace about it....
And the lush greenery makes me want to pause.... and admire the beautiful ways of nature that I forget about in the daily routine....
This moss and lichen covered tree had a strange, indescribable beauty....
The buffaloes relax... and pause chewing, to look at me....
I wonder what they would be thinking...
A dilapidated structure...
And we move on...
Deeper into the greens...
The trees here were old, they looked timeless and sturdy, they would have survived the many Monsoons that have lashed Mumbai, but they still stand, stand firm...
Fodder for his cattle?
Nandi, the bull at this little shrine of Lord Shiva...
This strange tree trunk has a hole, but the tree survives, flourishes - even nature survives the scars...
But when the tree dies, it goes back to earth, nourishing life that would follow, that's a timeless cycle of decay and regeneration....
A time to pause and relax...
Apparently this pond was formed by recent rain, the heaviest downpour that Mumbai has seen in years...
Even this mongrel knows its Sunday, he was too lazy to even look at me... And then chose to ignore me and scratch his hind leg...

Beautiful...
And life goes on...
But seeing this boar rushing out of the greens made me want to attack him like Obelix would have!!!!
Dark clouds appear on the horizon... And I am reminded it's time head back home...
