There is nothing better than discovering a city by foot. You never know what surprises you'll encounter just around the corner. That's what we discovered at the E&O Hotel, where we had an interesting peek into the life of Sarkies brothers, who in a sense gave Penang its defining charm...
After bidding adieu to one of the most enchanting hotels, we headed along Lebuh Farquhar....
An old mansion now converted to a restaurant....
Relaxing in the shade...
I would love to own a bungalow like that one, by the sea, and always in the shade...
We were hungry, we were famished!
And that's when we discovered the Old Shanghai Restaurant...
And we got in, anticipating some yummy food...
Neeti ordered some Drunken Chicken Rice...
This was an exciting twist to the classic Hainanese Chicken Rice...
The chicken was kind of "drunk" with some cool vodka, which was rather delightful...
I opted for seafood fried rice, which was nothing but yum!
The Wesley Methodist Church along Jalan Burma...
As we headed towards the Thai Buddhist temple, the Wat Chayamangkalaram, we passed by an on ongoing lion dance...
This is a traditional Chinese dance in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume. It is usually performed during the Chinese New Year and other Chinese traditional, cultural and religious festivals. It is also performed at important occasions such as business opening events, special celebrations or wedding ceremonies, or may be used to honour special guests...
The lions bless the office of Henry Butcher, a local real estate agent...
A fine young lad...
And we head to the Wat Chayamangkalaram...
I would to buy this car! The registration number is priceless...
Chinese New Year decorations...
