For a bit of "retail-therapy", to pick-up Malaysian souvenirs for our family, we headed to the Central Market from the Kuala Lumpur Station.
The Central Market, or the Pasar Seni, as it s called in Malay, dates back to 1888, when it was used as a wet-market. It was redeveloped in 1937 and is today classified as a heritage structure...
Pasar Seni is a paradise for those looking out for local Malaysian souvenirs...
We picked up quite a few fridge magnets for home and our family...

This was a Chinese dominated locality...
We walk past interesting buildings of yesteryears as we head to Jalan Petaling, the Chinatown of KL...
Jalan Petaling is known for its food stalls, Chinese curio shops and pirated DVDs...
The Chinese who came to KL in the 1800s were labourers headed for the tin mines. They were from the Hakka and Cantonese communities. As had happened in Singapore, the Chinese community got split along partisan lines, as secret societies (mafia) gained ground. Peace was restored when the British forces stepped in...

"Try it, you'll love it!"
That's so true for the dry barbecued strips of pork, or should I say, layers of goodness called bak-kwa...
That reminds me to pick up a big fat pack of bak-kwa from Singapore...
Savouries and sweets on sale...
Pancakes with peanuts and coconut...
We had couple of these - they were warm, delicately flavoured and slightly sweet...
The stall owner was a gregarious and friendly chap!
Pancakes in the making...
Meats galore... my kind of place...
Spicy Pan Mee on sale...
Glad to see Malaysia tolerates pork...
Wonton soup... anyone?
Bak Kut Teh is indeed Bak Good Teh...
The flavourful pork rib soup can make any day a great day for you... I can bet on anything to prove that!
Clay-pot rice...
Alas, we weren't hungry yet... and we had to reach the Petronas Twin Towers before they are closed for the day...
