My rediscovery of Hong Kong continues. From the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park, I headed to the Golden Bauhinia Square, a place we had visited in 2010.
The Shun Tak Centre, from where we had taken the TurboJet ferry to Macau in 2010...
Reminds me of Delhi!
The Bank of China Building, which in a sense is an iconic symbol of Hong Kong...
This is an island of skyscrapers...
Walking through Wan Chai district...
Construction never ceases in Hong Kong...
The Renaissance Harbour View, right next to the Golden Bauhinia Square...
It was from here, in 2010, we had witnessed the Symphony of Lights show, with a view of Kowloon. Today, however, I hope to check out the same show from Tsim Sha Tsui, across the harbour...
The Golden Bauhinia Square is named after the giant statue of a golden bauhinia blakeana situated right outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, The bauhinia is a symbol of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region...
The sculpture of the gilded flower bauhinia, is six metres high and is mounted on a base of red granite pillar on a pyramid...
This was the site for the handover ceremony when the colonial British handed over the sovereignty of Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China on the midnight of June 30-July1, 1997...
The handover brought an end to the era of imperialism in the region, a painful reminder of which will always be etched in the minds of the Chinese, the Opium Wars...
And the sun sets over Hong Kong...
But hopefully, the sun will never set on Hong Kong's unique position as a beacon of free enterprise and law & order...
