Cycling Along The Vierwaldstättersee...

From the heritage attractions along the River Reuss, it was time to head to the Vierwaldstättersee!

Vierwaldstättersee is the German name for Lake Lucerne, it literally means "Four Forested-Cantons Lake" as it bordered four cantons - Lucerne, Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden (Unterwalden has since been divided into the cantons of Obwalden and Nidwalden)...
Lake Lucerne has quite an irregular shape unlike other lakes and that is probably because it lies in four different valleys, along the adjoining mountains...
The famous Mount Rigi and Mount Pilatus lie along the shores of the lake and I can only imagine the wonderful panoramic views one would get from up there...
We won't be able to visit the Rigi and the Pilatus this time around though....

We cycled along the Haldenstrasse to head to Lake Lucerne...
On the way we passed by an important landmark of this lovely city, the Hofkirche St. Leodegar or the Church of St. Leodegar...
The Hofkirche was built between 1633 and 1639 on the foundation of the Roman basilica, which had burnt down in 1633. The original basilica was dedicated to St. Maurice, who is regarded as the patron saint of Lucerne...

A swan swimming in the lake...

The waters of the lake has amazing shades of blue...

Our bicycles...

The marina...

It was so peaceful sitting in the shade, watching the swans and the ducks, sipping on water and listening to breeze rustling through the trees and melodies of the waves...

Perhaps, the locals think the same way too...

It's best to strip down on a warm summer day like today...

...and get into the water!

And the ducks have perhaps borrowed the idea from the "chicks"(!!!)...

Sculptures along the lakeside...

After a good two hours by the lake side, we headed to the Löwendenkmal, passing by Hotel De La Paix, named after a famous hotel of the same name in Paris and yes, I remember visiting an Irani cafe  (famous for its mint tea) back home in Mumbai that goes by the same name...
