The Marble Gorges Of Taroko... Part II

And we drove on to head towards the legendary Tunnel of Nine Turns (九曲洞), passing by some amazing landscapes on the way...

I could stay here for ever...

Hello Kitty tissues on the bus. I swear Sanrio, the Japanese company, which owns the Hello Kitty must be laughing its way to the bank. Perhaps, Sanrio would make a good stock to invest in...

And following the Central Cross-Island Highway, we reach Yanzikou, or the Swallow's Grotto, on our way to the Tunnel of Nine Turns...

The Zhuilu Old Road was constructed during the Japanese colonial rule on the island, but is a hiking trail today...

A suspension bridge which spans the Liwu River at the foot of Swallows’ Grotto...

Look east, look west and see the magic of Mother Nature!

Heading towards the Tunnel of Nine Turns...

Here the sheer cliffs face each other and you can clearly view the rock folds, joints and faults of the marble cliffs...

The two cliffs are so close to each other, and it looks like they are joining to each other if seen from afar...

Our new Japanese friend, who barely spoke anything beyond a Hi, Hello or Thank You...

The distance between the cliffs is only around 10-meters wide at certain points...

The narrow Kelan River flows below us...

And Nature's splendor never ceases to amaze...

Everyone was spellbound...

Stopping by for a snack...

Fruits...

And some lovely porky delights...

Big fat sausages sizzling on a grill. The traditional way of having them is with a raw garlic pod!

The Indian Chief in the gorge...

The rock profile looks like that of a Red Indian man...

Magical views...

Pillars hold the cliff roof!

The rock faces along the gorge narrow down significantly here...
