The Serenity of Heungryunsa (흥륜사)...

With our trip to India completed successfully, it was time to explore Korea again, from where we left. And we decided to explore the area around Songdo, within the Incheon. We were assured of some exciting places to visit.
A 15 minute taxi ride from home brought us to the Heungryunsa Temple.

The Heungryunsa Temple was established over 600 years ago, during the reign of King Wu of the Goryeo Dynasty. The temple was established by Preceptor Naong, a royal monk in King Gongmin's court. At that time, the temple was called Cheongnyangsa and the hillock was called Cheongnyangsan.

The temple is located on a hillock and steps take you up there. Today, the temple is known for its 108 stairs that represent the 108 torments of mankind from the principles of Buddhism...

The surroundings of the temple are extremely peaceful...

During the Japanese invasion of the Korean peninsula in the late 1500s, the temple was gutted down in a fire. The area was left desolate for over 340 years, till 1938, when a new temple was constructed. The new temple was demolished in 1966 and reconstructed into eight new buildings. And then in 1977, its name was changed to its present name, Heungryunsa.

And it's so peaceful out here...

But it's quite cold at minus 10 degrees...
