Fuente De Las Ocho Regiones - Celebrating Diversity...

With my meetings in Oaxaca completed a few moments back, it was time to do some roaming around to embark on my discovery of the city.
My first port of call was the Fuente de las Ocho Regiones - a square in the modern part of the city that is a tribute to the diversity of the state of Oaxaca.

The square has a fountain with a central statue depicting a Zapotec man with traditional headgear surrounded by eight statues depicting the various cultures here...
The central statue has what is called a "Danza de la Pluma"...

The statues are female sculptures of about 2 meters high, and belong to the Isthmus, Costa, Mixteca, CaƱada, Tuxtepec and Sierra Norte and Sierra Sur regions of Oaxaca state...

The maternity hospital next door. The mural depicts childbirth...

The "Danza de la Pluma" is quite imposing...

The building of the Medical Faculty of the University of Oaxaca is across the street from the monument...
